FUTURE PLAY

Creative Producers is a youth arts programme that will explore the future of play with three SEND schools in Rotherham through visual and sound art. We will work closely with a cohort of young people aged 15+ in each school delivering different artistic practices to discover what play means to them now and how they imagine play to be in their future.

During the spring and summer terms we will co-create weekly sessions with artists, teachers and the young people themselves. We will gather audio recordings to create an immersive experience, including soundscape, digital and visual art which will be celebrated in their schools, the Nexus Academy Trust and as part of a new young people’s film and media festival for Children’s Capital of Culture 2025 celebrations.
Following a period of exploratory and skills building creative workshops we will pair each school up with an artist in response to their ideas and interests. The groups of young people alongside their teacher will work together to develop visual, digital, sound and/or moving images and games that can be woven together to create an interactive installation.
Future Play is a pilot engagement project for The Blanket Fort Club's Young Creative Producers programme, delivered as part of Children's Capital of Culture, Rotherham 2025.
